Balkans Beyond Borders has the pleasure of collaborating with Klara i Rosa, who will host an 80 minute\nshort-film screening event in Subotica, Serbia, on the 17th of February 2023. The screening will include a\ncurated selection of films that were part of the competition programme of the 13th BBB Short Film\nFestival, which had the theme \u2018Untiling the Mosaic\u2019. The special screening Tiles of our Mosaic in\nSubotica, aspires to shed light on Balkan contemporaneity, raise awareness on current social issues and\nexplore the reality of diverse identities, through the medium of film. BBB\u2019s Vice-President, Konstantina\nKarydi, will be presenting the film screening.<\/p>\r\n

Four old women, reflect on their memories of old times when they were young and how different the\nrelationships between men and women were back then. Their voices merge into one single voice, that\nof the grandmother Vera, who tells her story in proper detail. A trip into grandmother\u2019s youth and the\nmemories of her intimate life illustrate the status of Slovenian women in the first half of the 20th\ncentury.<\/p>\r\n

Tina is a 22 year old introvert girl with low self-esteem who struggles with the idea of what her body\nshould look like. She is under the influence of models of patriarchal society and her self-confident friend\nwho gives her advice on how to treat her body and how to lose her virginity. And by following her\nadvice, she gets a vaginal infection and has to see a gynecologist for the first time and face the shame\nand horror imposed by the public health.<\/p>\r\n

Exhausted of low-paid jobs, and following the breakup with his long-term girlfriend; frustrated Nicola\nbelieves his only escape is leaving the country. The story is set in one single day, in which he goes to an\nold friend from whom he buys a fake European Union passport. Throughout this day Nicola encounters\nseveral unpleasant situations that give us the impression he\u2019s about to explode any moment.<\/p>\r\n

During an epidemic, a young couple use their day off to take Mar on a day trip to the canyon. Mar is the\ngirl\u2019s elder sister with ASD. Along the way, they will try to process the emotional situation they found\nthemselves in. As their world collapses pressed by external influences and internal crises, Mar with them\nexists as a separate world. Her world is clean and horrible at the same time because it is unknown.<\/p>\r\n

Balkans Beyond Borders Short Film Festival is an annual multi thematic short-film festival that takes\nplace in a different city every year, with a special focus in South-Eastern Europe. It engages new\naudiences and promotes inter-Balkan cooperation. In its 13 years journey it has taken place in Belgrade,\nTirana, Athens, Bucharest, Sarajevo, Thessaloniki, Sofia, Brussels, Novi Sad, again Athens, Izmir (online\nedition) and Pristina. In 2022 the BBB Short Film Festival travelled to Bitola, North Macedonia, and\nstructured its screening programme and parallel activities under the theme \u201cUntiling\u201d the Mosaic,\nwhich centered around notions of redefining the \u2018mosaic\u2019 that structures our society, offering diversity\nas a tool for a new \u2018way of seeing\u2019 and creating. For us, the world is a mosaic composed of tiles different\nfrom one another, yet one is an integral part of the other.<\/p>\r\n

Balkans Beyond Borders (BBB) je kulturna neprofitna organizacija sa sedi\u0161tem u Atini, Gr\u010dka. Cilj BBB-a je izgradnja tolerantnih, inkluzivnih i demokratskih dru\u0161tava, sa posebnim interesovanjem za pro\u0161ireni deo balkanske regije. Vo\u0111ene umetno\u0161c\u0301u, akcije BBB-a uklju\u010duju godi\u0161nji filmski festival, dru\u0161tveno-kulturne doga\u0111aje, seminare, otvorene diskusije i saradnje sa akademicima i profesionalcima iz kulturnog, dru\u0161tveno-politi\u010dkog i umetni\u010dkog sektora, kao i filmske industrije. BBB ima za cilj da deluje kao pozornica kulturne diplomatije i regionalne saradnje na Balkanu, uvode\u0107i inovativne mehanizme saradnje i osvetljavaju\u0107i balkansku kulturu.<\/p>\r\n

The event is realized thanks to the support of the European Fund for the Balkans and the beeEffect program, which brings together leaders from the Balkan region. The European Fund for the Balkans is a joint initiative of European foundations (Erste Foundation, Robert Bosch Foundation and King Baudouin Foundation) which leads and supports programs aimed at strengthening democracy, encouraging European integration and affirming the role of the Western Balkans in upcoming European challenges.<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n
